This page explains how Melbourne Tourism Guide makes money, which links are paid, and what that means for what you read here. It was last updated on 10 September 2026.
The short version
Our booking links are routed through a partner that adds commission tracking automatically, so if you book through one we earn a commission from the provider, at no extra cost to you. It never affects what we recommend. Every guide on this site carries a line saying so at the top.
How this site is funded
We work with Stay22, a booking partner that handles the accommodation and activity links on this site. When you follow one of those links and make a booking, the provider pays us a small commission out of its own margin, after the fact. The price you pay is the same as it would be going direct, and nothing here is behind a paywall or conditional on using those links.
The site carries no display advertising at present. Commission on booking links is the whole of how it is paid for.
Which links are paid
You cannot tell by looking at the URL, and neither can we at the moment of writing. Stay22 rewrites outbound booking links after the page has loaded in your browser, adding a referral tag as it goes. That is why the disclosure at the top of every guide is unconditional rather than link-by-link: we would rather tell you that any booking link may have been routed that way than label some and miss others.
What a commission does not buy
No venue, hotel, tour operator or restaurant pays to be included here, and none is given a preview of what a guide says about it. There are no sponsored placements. A commission follows a recommendation; it never creates one, and it never buys a position in a ranking. Where a well-known attraction is described as overpriced or skippable, that is the honest read.
What this means for your data
Stay22 does not set a cookie. It identifies your device from characteristics of your browser and device — fingerprinting — and stores an identifier in your browser’s local storage so that a booking can be credited to this site. It is classified as a marketing technology in the cookie notice here, so refusing marketing storage stops the script running at all, and refusing limits nothing you can read. Once you follow a booking link you are on the provider’s own site under their privacy policy. The full account is in our privacy policy.
